COVID-19 Vaccine Campaigns

We have taken a series of safety measures early on to minimize the risk to our employees and to fully ensure our Opticooler supply. Our Customer Service team switched immediately to virtual work from home, and we have a specific focus on our maintenance staff on the ground.
We have further improved our internal procedures and logistics processes to enable quick turn-around times for Opticoolers after a flight while maintaining the well-known highest reliability and service quality.

We developed an innovative and new temperature program for our Opticooler, which is especially designed to transport (deep-) frozen passive shipments within an active Opticooler to extend the runtime of the passive boxes significantly.

1. What is the temperature range of an Opticooler ULD?

+2°C to +8°C (preselected)
+15°C to +25°C (preselected)
Or any other temperature between +2°C to +30°C

The Opticooler cannot actively freeze and cannot be set to specific minus temperatures.

Since some COVID-19 vaccine must be transported at very low temperatures (-20°C/-70°C), DoKaSch developed a special temperature program (P4) for an additional protection of frozen passive boxes.

2. Can the Opticooler be used for frozen shipments, e.g., at minus 70°C?

Since some COVID-19 vaccine must be transported at very low temperatures (-20°C/-70°C), DoKaSch developed a special temperature program (P4) for an additional protection of frozen passive boxes.

In this program (P4), the Opticooler is only cooling and not heating and maintains an internal temperature of max. +5°C (tolerance +3°C).

3. Have the vaccine campaigns an impact on the availability of Opticooler for ongoing regular shipments?

First priority is the continuous supply of our existing clients with Opticoolers, for their ongoing global distribution of life-saving pharmaceuticals.

4. How does DoKaSch manage the availability of Opticooler for the vaccine distribution?

Reliably supporting the global vaccine supply is our goal and our joint challenge!

DoKaSch-TS has increased stocks for the vaccine distribution, but to get the most out of a given number of Opticoolers, increasing usage is the key.
We have improved our check procedures and logistic processes for a quick same day turnaround times in our depots.
To increase the usage, we also rely on closed loop airport-to airport Opticooler flows. Airlines and forwarders should be prepared to return containers on the same aircraft or the next scheduled flight. We focus on a strong cooperation and an individual setup for each trade lane.

5. Where are Opticoolers available for the vaccine distribution and how are they delivered to the customer?

The Opticoolers are adhoc available in huge distribution areas (Delivery Area Info Sheet), and not restricted to specific depots.

Additional pop-up depots will be established at COVID-19 vaccine production sites worldwide, on short notice depending on demand.
